"The mountains that sweep down to the sea — granite, heather, and the high dry-stone Mourne Wall running for 35 kilometres across the tops."

The Mournes are a compact granite range in County Down, less than an hour from Belfast, rising to 850 metres at the summit of Slieve Donard. They are perhaps best known for the Mourne Wall — a 35-kilometre dry-stone wall built over the early 20th century to mark the catchment of the Silent Valley reservoir.

We walk the Mourne Wall in four days, camping one night in a stone bothy near the Brandy Pad and staying the rest in Newcastle.

These are C.S. Lewis's hills. He said they were the direct inspiration for Narnia, and you will understand why.
